At CC-215 (Bruce Woodbury Beltway) & N. Pecos Road, the plan for Helios builds upon the community vision put forward in the Deer Springs Livable Center Plan for a signature walkable, transit accessible commercial zone in North Las Vegas. This plan takes a comprehensive approach to a premier healthcare, research, and business campus that integrates compelling land uses, urban density, and a sense of identity in close relationship to open space. These strategies hinge on the notion that wellness and restorative care are most effective in connection with natural environments and collaborative settings. The core of the masterplan aims to foster community, innovation, and collaboration via the integration of the hospital, outpatient facilities, R&D, incubator spaces, and supporting commercial uses. Residential uses will not be permitted so as to create the maximum economic benefit in the Job Creation Zone. Pacific Group continues to work diligently to realize the vision of turning this campus into a top-tier destination for medical services, an economic driver, and a community hub for the City of North Las Vegas.
In alignment with the vision of the City of North Las Vegas and input from key stakeholders, the development team has developed the following program of uses. This program will continue to be refined to allow for insight and expertise from the City and stakeholders in order to create the best possible solution with substantial economic benefits.
This project presents a comprehensive approach to a premier healthcare research and business campus that integrates compelling land uses, phased density and a sense of identity in close relationship to open space.
The master plan hinges on the notion that wellness and restorative care are most effective in close proximity to, and connection with, natural environments. Central to the masterplan organization are two axes – the east/west connection through the site that simplifies access and the north/south open space which is an armature for pedestrian movement and curated public spaces. At the intersection of these two axes is the central heart of the project, upon which the various land uses converge – and within which there are native landscapes, shaded moments and spaces for reflection or interaction. The core of the masterplan aims to foster innovation and collaboration via the integration of the Hospital, Outpatient facilities, R&D, and Incubator spaces.
Hospital and Emergency Services: To include full-service hospital, emergency department, surgical services, and critical care.
Outpatient Services: To Include occupational therapy, behavioral and mental health, educational facilities, testing labs, sport center rehabilitation, skin care treatment, speech therapy, trauma therapy, radiology, imaging, urology, GI, pre and post natal care, dental and a variety of other uses.
Research and Development: To include medical and technology companies with the goal of producing solutions focused on the broadly defined health care, aerospace, and sustainable industries. These companies will be a part of the collaborative effort to develop future innovative solutions driving the success of the campus.
Commercial/Retail: To include local food and beverage offerings, athletic facilities, grocery, unique shopping experiences, and other supportive uses related to health and wellness, as well as any needed neighborhood services such as financial institutions, daycare centers, etc.
Hotel: With limited options for lodging in the immediate area, the hotels at Helios will provide a comfortable and inviting space for guests and their families to stay and relax while visiting or receiving treatment. Hotels will have direct access to Helios’ walkable spaces and retail amenities, as well as easy access to the freeway and the surrounding community.
The relationship of complementary uses is critical to the success of this project, and the team has taken great care to assess market potential for various uses on the site and organize the campus in a way that supports their interaction. By creating synergies between the local community, economic needs, and healthcare needs, Helios has the potential to make a large positive impact on the health of the local economy and community.
The centerpiece of the land use is a new inpatient hospital at approximately 1.1 million square feet at completion. Outpatient services and Medical Office space will provide support to the new hospital as well as the nearby VA Medical Center. Research & Development use is prioritized in support of the medical uses and will be bolstered by the future UNLV campus planned just North-East of the site. The remainder of the site includes a mix of specialty Retail, Commercial, Food and Beverage, and two hotels. The Enhanced Open Space includes public spaces organized along a central Wash that creates trail connections between adjacent uses.
The thoughtful design of the development’s streets and open spaces are essential to creating a health and wellness centered campus. The project is defined by two major organizational axes, including “The Boulevard” and “The Wash,” which become the backbone of the campus and iconic features. Art space and sculpture installations will define the look and feel of the community space focusing on wellness.
The site is organized around the central Wash to create a central amenity for development and trail connections. The Wash has been envisioned as a linear park with several distinct open space nodes of varying size, programming, and character, all with the intention of creating community spaces with a connection to nature. These nodes enhance many of the development aspects of the project–including connection to natural settings for hospital patients and staff, plazas and play areas to attract families to the site, and outdoor seating, dining, and respite areas for medical buildings and commercial retail. Sustainable design is a key aspect in the planning of Helios, from the overall interaction, accessibility, and efficiency of the campus, down to the design of each building, landscaping, and resource usage. Pacific Group and their partners are committed to creating a development that is built for the long-term needs of the environment and the communities that live there.
The master plan prioritizes making the site into a destination for North Las Vegas that makes walking and biking more accessible and leverages planned future transit access connecting the site to the rest of the city.
The plan calls for a rich network of streets and paths connecting the site to its surrounding neighborhoods and open spaces, and block sizes that promote walking lifestyles, as well as commercial and outdoor uses. Primary circulation is designed around the central Wash and Boulevard, which provides a link to the VA Medical Center. The Wash also provides direct bicycle access from the proposed trail along the 215 Beltway to the future expanded Skyview Park south of the site. The wash trails connect to the Las Vegas valley-wide bicycle path circulating over 70 miles throughout Las Vegas.
